It Was All A(tl) Dream - a chat with the Atlanta Dream's VP of Basketball Operations, Natalie White

Logistics and love for the home team. On this past Wednesday, September 21, I’m sure Natalie White had mind and heart racing due to both of those elements. The Atlanta Dream’s VP of Basketball Operations had to help manage the team’s venue change from Phillips Arena to Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion for their playoff game vs. the Seattle Storm. With it being a WNBA single elimination game for the opening round, it was truly a win-or-go-home (or more like win-or-stay-home) scenario for the Dream.

“One game. Every possession truly matters. Every possession counts” were the words of Natalie as you could hear a sigh of relief along with the description of her sentiments going into last week’s game. The Atlanta Dream administrative team and staff could control the logistics associated with the temporary move, but making sure Wednesday’s gameday wouldn’t be the last one of the Dream’s season was a different story. Angel McCoughtry had no problem being the lead author on that one. The Olympian finished with 37 points while shooting 66.7 percent from the field in the Dream’s 94-85 win over Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart and the Seattle Storm.

Aside from the many buckets, one of the night’s highlights courtesy of McCoughtry was a high degree of difficulty mid-range jumper followed by celebration and high-fives from the Atlanta Hawks’ Dwight Howard, Dennis Schroder, and Tim Hardaway, Jr. who were courtside for the contest.

I got a chance to talk the Atlanta Dream-Atlanta Hawks relationship, the business and community involvement side of the Atlanta Dream, the Olympic effect on women’s basketball, and more in this chat with Natalie White, VP of Basketball Operations:

Miller Grove Shot Clock League - live video this Wednesday

We'll have live video from five games at the 2nd Annual Miller Grove Shot Clock League on Wednesday, June 25. The league has continued to receive great feedback from participating teams and coaches, and Miller Grove head coach Sharmane White has even had to turn a few teams away each year given the number of teams that want to play with the shot clock. The high school basketball shot clock debate continues throughout the state of Georgia and the rest of the country, but the benefits of it seem pretty apparent given the handful or private school conferences that have adopted it as well as the elite travel ball leagues that put it to use. It will be interesting to see if the financial and manpower implications shot clock opponents cite as issues will give way to the value having a shot clock in high school provides.

With that being said, here are the live video links to Wednesday's games from the MG Shot Clock League:

4pm: Miller Grove vs. Lovejoy
5pm: North Clayton vs. Stone Mountain
6pm: Lovejoy vs. Sandy Creek
7pm: Tucker vs. Jonesboro

Starting with tipoff on Sunday, June 15, the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) will be providing live and archived webcasts of select games from the 2014 Atlanta Entertainment Basketball League (AEBL). The AEBL, founded by Jahi Rawlings in 2013, is Atlanta’s newest live sports and entertainment attraction for competitive basketball played by current, former and aspiring NBA players, celebrities, entertainers and local athletes. Though only in its second year, the AEBL is poised to be a fixture in the Atlanta community for years to come.

"Partnering with the SUV this year to bring live streaming to our summer league is next level," says AEBL visionary Jahi Rawlings, "Summer basketball will never be the same."

Rated as the country's premier summer basketball league, the AEBL operates from June – August at downtown Atlanta's Central Park. The league provides a FREE, live entertainment venue for Atlanta’s local community, while attracting guests and players from across the US. Participating teams will compete on a custom made hardwood basketball court that will be the first of its kind in the Southeast.

Beyond the basketball side of things, the AEBL focuses on positive contributions to the area in the form of local gatherings, feeding the community, providing back to school supplies, and two programs entitled “Stop Your Bullying” and “Hoop In My Shoes.”

“The buzz and impact of the AEBL is very visible here in the Atlanta area”, says Marques Burnett, founder of The Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), “We’re excited about using the SUVtv webcasts to provide even more visibility for the league, its participants, and the overall experience the AEBL provides.”

The webcast schedule will tipoff with the opening games this Sunday. Go to AEBLhoops.com to watch this year’s action live and on demand.
